Tim Johnson is a filmmaker based in Los Angeles.
When he was a teenager, he made silly short films with his friends. He’s been doing that with varying levels of success ever since.
Tim grew up in southwest Virginia and attended Elon University. He spent a summer in LA and moved there after graduating. He broke into the industry as an assistant editor and then a freelance editor before directing.
His 2018 directorial debut, VIRGINIA 12TH, is a political documentary that follows the story of a candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates whose life was affected by gun violence. The film was the first feature-length documentary acquired by NowThis and was released on Amazon Prime.
He then directed the 2021 Paramount+ series FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE, a true-crime documentary about a Canadian comedian and his best friend trying to solve the 1934 case of his missing great-great uncle.
As an editor, he’s cut for Netflix, Paramount+, Showtime, Starz, The New York Times and others - his work winning a Sports Emmy, Webby Award and Vimeo Staff Picks.
