VIRGINIA 12TH
Chris Hurst was a television news anchor when his girlfriend and fellow journalist at WDBJ in Virginia, Alison Parker, was murdered live on-air in 2015 during a local news report. Following the traumatic personal loss which made national headlines, he quit journalism to seek public office.
In 2017, the year he ran, Virginia’s 12th district was a microcosm of a divided nation. The 30-year-old Democratic candidate worked to rally support from a polarized district featuring deep-red rural areas and liberal college towns. The documentary tells the story of why he decided to go into public service and the campaign that grew around his mission, culminating in his unlikely election to the Virginia House of Delegates.
The film premiered at the 2018 Virginia Film Festival and was the first feature-length film distributed by NowThis.
VIRGINIA 12TH can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video and YouTube.
